The river Neretva flows through Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The length of the river Neretva is 225 km. The area of the river Neretva is 10,380 sq.km.
In its head, the river Neretva is cold, and it flows through a deep gorge, and then the river gets wider, crosses the Dinarskoje highland, and creates valleys with fertile soil. Here, a reservoir made by a hydro plant and a dam 85 meters high is located.

The valley of the Neretva is called the “valley of tangerines”, the soil of the valley is remarcably fertile and has a unique microclimate. A variety of fruit and vegetable grows here — potatoes, tomatoes, mustard, watermelons, tangerines, pomegranates and oranges. Every year, about 60,000 tonnes of tangerines are harvested in the valley of the Neretva.
On the banks of the Neretva, one of the most important towns of the Roman empire was located — the old town of Narona. The ruins of Narona are found in the settlement of Vid not far from the town of Metkovic.
Narona was a rich ancient Roman towm with its own forum, temples; here, a lot of architectural remains of the 1st-5th centuries are found.
