The Imotski lakes are the karst lakes of Croatia.
There are two Imotski lakes: Red Lake and Blue Lake
Red Lake / Crveno jezero
The Red Lake (Crveno jezero) is a karst lake.
The depth of the Crveno jezero is 287 meters.
The Crveno jezero of Croatia is the deepest lake in Europe.
The elevation of the lake is 281 meters above sea level. The elevation difference is 528 meters.
The Crveno jezero is three times smaller in its area than the Blue Lake, and it is surrounded by steep slopes. On their edge there is a sightseeing platform.
The red rocks on the shore of the lake gave it its name.
Blue Lake / Modro jezero
The Blue Lake (Modro jezero) is a karst lake, its area is 38,9 hectares.
The lake is located in a deep basin, where a serpentine road leads.
The water level of the Blue Lake (Modro jezero) changes throughout the year, and sometimes it completely dries up.
The depth of the Modro jezero changes from 0 to 147 meters.
If you go down to the very bottom of the basin, you can swim in very clean mountain water of bright blue colour.
