City Biograd na Moru is a resort city of North Dalmatia of Croatia, the riviera of the Zadar city located on the coast of the Pasman strait of the Adriatic sea.
The riviera of Biograd na Moru attracts its guests with very clean beaches and picturesque scenery of the coast and the isle of Pasman, and the neighbouring isles of Planac and Sv. Katarina.

History of Biograd na Moru
Biograd na Moru, which means “a white city on the sea” was first mentioned in the 10th century as a city founded by Croatian kings and as their consequent residence.
In 1102 the Hungarian King Koloman I was crowned, which united the Croatian and the Hungarian crowns. In 1125, the city was almost completely destroyed after a Venetian raid.
When the crusaders sacked the city of Zadar in 1202, part of the citizens of Zadar fleed to Biograd na Moru, which made the city grow. In the 13th and the 14th centuries Biograd na Moru was ruled by local princes, and in 1409, as part of Dalmatian territories, it was annexed by Venice.
In 1521 and 1646, during Venice’s wars agains Turkey, Biograd na Moru was razed twice. In 1797 Biograd na Moru became part of Austria when the Venetian republic fell.
After the First World War, the region of Biograd na Moru became part of the kingdom of the Serbs, Croatians and Slovenians, and later of Yugoslavia.
In 1991, after the disintegration of Yugoslavia, Biograd na Moru became part of the independent state of Croatia.
Sightseeing of Biograd na Moru
Biograd na Moru is located on a peninsula between two small bays – Soline in the south, and Bosane in the north.
Among the remaining architectural monuments of Biograd na Moru are: the church of St Anastasia (1761) – the main church of the city — the churches of St Anthony and St Roch, the Basilica of St John (11th century) and the City museum with an interesting exhibition of the archaeological finds in the region.
Vransko Lake natural park
The main natural landmark of Biograd na Moru is the large fresh water lake Vransko Jezero – the largest lake of Croatia.
Vransko Jezero is famous not only for its beauty, but it is also a unique perching ground of herons, which are studied by ornithologists.

Not far from Vransko Jezero there is a very interesting monument of architecture and history — a fortress built by Knights Templar exiled from Rhodes.
