Nudist beaches and resorts in Croatia

Croatia is famous among Europeans for its nudist beaches for a long time. Nudist beaches, resorts, campsites and hotels are organized in Croatia.

Nudists (from the Latin “nudus” – naked) are people who like to sunbathe naked, and naturists (from the English word nature – nature) adhere to the philosophy of “unity with nature”, they unite in special clubs and even in everyday life try to wear as little as possible clothes.

The history of naturism in Croatia dates back to 1930, when King Edward VIII and his lover Wallis Simpson decided to swim nude in Kandarola Bay of island Rab. They did not know that they would become the founders of nudism movement, and Croatia would become one of the leading countries in the world in number of nudist beaches.

The first nudist beach Paradise beach was opened on island of Rab in 1934.

Croatia officially opened its borders to commercial naturist centers in 1953, the first in Europe. Until that time, naturism in Europe was practiced only in closed clubs. Adriatic coast takes the first place in the world in terms of density of nudist beaches and resorts in Croatia.

Official nudist beaches are marked with FFK signs – from the German “Freikorperkultur” – Free Body Culture – and are special areas within the “regular” beaches. Entrance to nudist beaches is often paid.

Croatia is definitely the nudism capital of the world
