Upper Town / Gornji Grad is the Medieval part of the centre of Zagreb.
The heart of Zagreb’s Gornji Grad is Zagreb’s neogothic cathedral – Zagreb Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary – on Kaptol place.
From the Kaptol square along an narrow old street, you can go the famous central market Dolac, from where a stairway leads down to Zagreb’s central square — Trg bana Jelasica.

In Zagreb’s Gornji Grad you can see the tower Lotrscak, from which a cannon fires, letting the people know when it is noon, and which offers an enchanting view of the entire city, the gothic church of St Mark of the 14th-15th century with a mosaic roof of multi-coloured roof tiles, the Baroque church of St Catherine, the Bloody Bridge, the monument to St. George, the Stone Gate, the bishop’s palace with St. Stephen chapel, the Sabor, the Museum of Zagreb, and many others.
From Donji Grad to Gornji Grad you can go down in a Zagreb funicular. The fare is 5 kunas, the rails are 66 m long, and the road takes 55 seconds.

Or you can walk down the picturesque park Strossmayer Promenade.
In the park, artisans sell their hand-made souvenirs, there is live music playing, there are cafes in the shade of large trees, and every evening there are concerts of music bands of different kinds.
